Quick Info for the program: This is a yearly science fair night program by CAES, where students, families, and associates participate to provide exciting and educational fun activities for the students. ASCE – Norfolk Branch has previously attended this program back in 2019; however, due to Covid-19, we have not been able to attend the program until this year. We coordinated our participation through Ms. Mary Roundtree, who is the coordinator of STEM programs in the school. ASCE – Norfolk Branch members provided educational activities that included building structures with gumdrops and toothpicks to test structural stability to hold textbooks, as well as pervious pavement sample showing how infiltration works through permeable surface. We also provided several ASCE swags for the students and parents. The students had great time while experimenting on their constructive methodology that allowed their models to hold medium to heavy textbooks.
The event was booth-style and was hosted indoors. Members of the ASCE - Norfolk Branch (Christina Ammens, Mike Bumbaco, and Kayode Aransiola) attended the event together, and we were able to meet with many students who showed great interest in engineering profession.
